Book Lovers

"Nora Stephens life is books-she's read them all-and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laid-back dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister, Libby. Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters' trip away-with visions of a small-town transformation for Nora, who she's convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging forearmed bartended, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish, brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute, if not for the fact that they've met many times and it's never been cute. If Nora knows she's not the ideal heroine, Charlie knows he's nobody's hero, but they are thrown together again and again-in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow-what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they've written about themselves."

Book Lovers by Emily Henry is a hilarious, rom-com-esque read that's sure to please any reader willing to tread the pages. I adore Nora, she is the strong female girl boss that craves the noisy city life and keeps her family together. She is ambitious, fiercely independent, and has a heart of gold underneath it all. She is witty and intelligent, but these qualities don't often translate well to the female race in the corporate world, which is exactly what Nora finds out.

People see her as cold and bloodthirsty, which she isn't at all. She copes with this fact while on a life-changing vacation with her little sister. Nora is the type to look out for everyone that she loves before herself, but she finds that sometimes she needs to let her loved ones make decisions for themselves. She can't always be the fixer, but it is a role she has known since their mother died (when Libby was still in high school). She needs control in an otherwise uncontrollable world, but she learns and grows throughout this novel into someone capable of dealing with the entropy of the universe. Capable of letting the pieces fall where they may, despite her itching to change their course.

At the heart of it all is a very forbidden, frown-smirking love that she tries to deny herself over and over again. It turns out, Mr. Lastra has more in common with her than she realizes. He can read her like a book, and she him. Never before were there two pieces destined to fall together like these two, but the circumstances have something else in mind.

Can Nora have it all, for once in her life? Well, you'll have to read that conclusion for yourself.
