Crown of Midnight
“Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King’s Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she goes to great lengths to hide her secret, her deadly charade becomes more difficult when she realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. Her search for answers ensnares those closest to her, and no one is safe from suspicion-not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard: not even her best friend, Nehemiah, a princess with a rebel heart. Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie . . . And what she is willing to fight for.”
After the incredible heartbreak of the conclusion of Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas further sucks the reader in to the plot. The calculated tragedy of the first book fuels a fire that can never go out, and a fate that can never be ignored. Celaena is so incredibly stubborn, unknowingly rock solid, and loyal to her core. That can make her react in interesting ways to conflict, especially as she grapples with more betrayal and grief. I have found myself looking up to her strength and unwavering fortitude, even in the face of unimaginable adversity. Coupled with the plot twist reveal at the very tail end of the book, this series will be consuming me further. No question about it.
