Queen of Shadows

"Celaena Sardothien has embraced her identity as Aelin Galanthynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight. She will fight her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in and unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return. Everyone Aelin loves has been taken from her. Everything she holds dear is in danger. But she has the heart of a queen-and that heart beats for vengence.”

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I did not see the twists and turns coming and long questioned the relevance of having so many different perspectives of the same events . . . until they were woven together. Turns out, the king was not their biggest threat. The Valg have been biding their time in Morath, raising and creating an army to annihilate the world. I still find myself a little disappointed that Chaol did not fight harder for Celaena, but I understand it. He is chivalrous and honorable, his heart knowing where to draw that line when Aelin accepted her new title. Besides, Rowan is a much better fit for her anyway. I cannot wait until they finally realize that they are mates (all of those looks “seeming to say” this and that were Rowan’s actual thoughts). The bond just needs to snap in place when they finally get some alone time. In typical Maas fashion, she has us at the edge of our seat with that long-awaited romance. I will be diving into the next book shortly, excited to see what develops among our group of heroes, kings, and queens.
